Storywriting

Target audience: Year 7 & 8

Description: Run by 3 of our 6th form Youth Leaders over zoom. They broke down the 6 parts of a story - beginning, build up, middle, dilemma, resolution and then ending. They gave examples of each section and tips and then gave the children a few minutes to write their own section. By the end of the session everyone had a complete story!

Why was it a success? Every child was fully engaged and immersed in their own creative world for an hour, with just a pen and paper. They had opportunities to share their story with the group and get praise from their peers.

Aim of event: For each child to write their own story to contribute to a Year 7 & 8 R Club Book

Advice for communities looking to replicate: This could be replicated with any age group...even adults! Giving people a creative space to get outside of their head and surroundings could be an amazing opportunity right now.

Children's Birthday Breakfast

Target audience: Primary school kids and their parents

Description: Massive Breakfast is served to children of the community once a month. parents of children who's birthday it is of the month the breakfast takes place are invited to sponsor. Tea/coffee/drinks are served to parents.

Why was it a success? Parents who have not been to shul once in two years began to attend the breakfast. They are now weekly congregants (again)

Aim of event: Parents to come to and have a chat and drink on the shul site (feet through the door). Gradually parents come back into shul and include themselves into community life post-pandemic.
