Introduction 

• Your shul building, and any other real estate used by your Community, is obviously crucial to your Community. Convenience, atmosphere, warmth, safety and not least the number, comfortableness and decorative condition of the rooms, are all important, not just that you have the basic space for a minyan and kiddush.

• Without going into much detail then, this section of the Handbook will hopefully assist you in dealing quickly with any initial decisions which need to be made, about your Community’s physical surroundings.

Outline

• The Property Department of the US provides services connected to the whole property portfolio which includes synagogues, residential properties, cemeteries and offices.

• The main services include

  • Property (legal and commercial elements of purchases, rentals and leases, refurbishment and redevelopment);

  • Health & Safety (assessments, advice and training);

  • Building Surveying & Project Control (including submission of Planning Applications, investigating building defects and arranging repairs); and

  • Insurance & Security (arranging and advising on insurance for buildings and assets; managing claims; advising on fire and general security).
